Murder and intrigue and prom queens, oh my!
I managed to get my hands on a review copy of Two Can Keep A Secret through my job as a bookseller (A.K.A. the best job in the world!). I loved One of Us Is Lying so I was very excited to read this book.
From the blurb:
Echo Ridge is reeling.
This picturesque town, nestled near the Canadian border and boasting the highest per capita income in the country, experienced it’s first tragic loss in 1995 when high-school senior Sarah Corcoran vanished while walking home from the library.
Then five years ago, homecoming queen Lacey Kilduff was found dead in the aptly named (and since renamed) Murderland Halloween park.
A small town keeps losing its homecoming queens.
Two murders, still unsolved.
And a killer who claims to be coming back.
Echo Ridge is not a good place to be popular.
Twins Ellery and Ezra move to Echo Ridge when their mum, the actress Sadie Corcoran, has to go to rehab. The twins have never visited their mum’s hometown before, and hardly know their grandmother.
All they know is that their mum’s twin, Sarah, disappeared in 1995 and although presumed dead, her body has never been found.
Ellery is obsessed with true crime stories, and is determined to find out what is going on in this seemingly perfect small town.
When they arrive, someone claiming to be the killer starts leaving creepy messages around town, with details about the gruesome murders, and warning that Ellery is going to be one of his next victims…
I cannot tell you how much I loved this book! The picturesque setting is reminiscent of Twin Peaks, and the plot just reminds me of my favourite nineties slasher movies like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.
The characters are diverse without feeling like token characters and I kept guessing who the killer was (but wasn’t sure) until right at the end when the truth was revealed. This is a page turner that will keep you up all night.
I gave this book 4/5 stars and highly recommend it if your looking for a good YA thriller.
