I read a whole book in a day! That hasn’t happened in ages! I’ve had the sequel to Reign of Shadows for a while, but wasn’t really in the mood for it. I fancied a bit of YA fantasy this morning and devoured it in 2 sittings.
From the blurb:
Luna and Fowler have escaped the kingdom of Relhok, but they haven’t escaped the darkness. When a battle against the dark dwellers mortally injures Fowler, Luna is faced with a choice: put their fate in the hands of mysterious strangers or risk losing Fowler forever.
Desperate to keep the one bright part of her life alive, Luna accepts the help of soldiers from a nearby kingdom. Lagonia’s castle offers reprieve from the dangerous outside world—until the king discovers both Fowler’s and Luna’s true ties to Relhok and their influence over the throne.
Now pawns in each kingdom’s political game, Luna and Fowler are more determined than ever to escape and build the life they’ve been dreaming of. But their own pasts have a tight hold on their hearts and their destinies. Luna must embrace the darkness and fire within her before she loses not only Fowler, but the power she was destined to inherit.
In this book, their has been a massive eclipse, and the world has been overrun by Dark Dwellers, who hunt humans and feast on their flesh. Luna, the lost Princess of Relhok and her enemy’s son Fowler, found each other in the dark and have vowed to run away together.
Luna and Fowler were separated at the end of the first book, when Fowler sacrificed himself to save Luna from the dark dwellers.
This was a huge deal, since Fowler had disconnected from people, after losing the girl he loved.
Lunar won’t put up with any self sacrificing shenanigans though, and decides to defend into the dwellers underground lair to rescue him. Even though she is blind. She kicks arse.
They are then both saved by Prince Chasan, heir to the neighbouring Kingdom. Chasan’s father recognises Luna, and promises to protect her, to create an alliance, but he has ulterior motives. Luna and Fowler discover that royal politics can be more dangerous than flesh eating monsters in the dark…
I enjoyed this book, I love that Luna just gets on with things, but this book seemed to end so quickly.
It felt like there were 250 pages of a frankly annoying, love triangle, 10 pages of action, and then a 10 page wrap up.
I would have loved Jordan to spend more time developing Luna’s abilities, maybe leading her troops into a war. It was just really abrupt.
I have the book 3/5 stars on Goodreads.
